Milwaukee, WI
Violet Maloney is a 19-year-old artist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up at a Waldorf school which nurtured her love for nature, and its many beauties. Growing up there helped open her mind to new ideas and keep the imagination of her childhood self. The school nourished her love for art by teaching everything from sculpture with clay and beeswax to woodwork. Her classes could go from painting in the classroom to taking nature walks in the woods, in a matter of hours. This foundation in values of imagination, creativity, and experimentation led her to painting the world with feelings of wonder. Creating scenes that show not just what she sees physically, but what she feels could be. She is guided by questions like: what is really there? What could be with a little “je ne sais quoi”? What would the world look like, with a little imagination? She knows the world is hard on artists, and not every idea she has is going to be understood or liked, but she will always persist. Art is a passion and a way to express memories, stories, ideas, dreams, and reality. To her, her work is one of the closest things the world will ever see to her own personally written journal. And she hopes people remember, not everything is what it seems, especially at first. By asking the hard and not obvious question, sometimes you can find a whole new world. This artist loves to challenge the norms and think about the what ifs; and how she can make positive change, bring hope and wonder even when none seems to be there.
